Powers of Attorney and Wards of Court are grantedInstructions regarding the payment of an individual’s pension can only be changed with the pensioner’s signature, unless a third party is granted Power of Attorney or the pensioner is made a Ward of Court. Power of Attorney can only be granted while the pensioner is mentally well and not once they have been diagnosed with any form of senile dementia. You will need to contact a solicitor for advice on this subject. Making a pensioner a Ward of Court is done to protect their interest. Applications are generally requested where there are no living relatives, or when the pensioner is suffering from senile dementia. The completed Power of Attorney, or the Order stating that the pensioner has been made a Ward of Court, must be forwarded to Towers Watson Payroll as soon as possible so that we can update our records. Only when Towers Watson has seen this document can any instructions regarding the banking details be acted upon or any details regarding the pension be given. We will, of course, return all documents to you. |
