The Pensions Service

Part of the Department for Work and Pensions, the Pensions Service is responsible for delivering support and advice to people of working age, employers, pensioners, families and children and disabled people. One of its key aims is to help citizens become financially independent.

The Financial Services Authority (FSA)

The FSA is an independent body that regulates the financial services industry in the UK. This link takes you to the Money Made Clear part of the FSA.

It has four main aims:

  • Maintaining confidence in the UK financial system.
  • Promoting public understanding of the financial system.
  • Securing the right degree of protection for consumers.
  • Helping to reduce financial crime.

The Pensions Advisory Service (TPAS)

TPAS is a non-profit organisation which seeks to help any member of the public who has a problem, complaint or dispute with their occupational or private pension arrangement.

The Pensions Ombudsman

The Pensions Ombudsman investigates and decides complaints and disputes about the way that pension plans are run.

The Pensions Regulator

The Pensions Regulator was set up under the Finance Act 2004 and came into existence in April 2005. The Regulator's primary responsibility is to protect the benefits of members of work based pension plans. The Pension Protection Fund

Established by the Pensions Act 2004, the Pension Protection Fund (PPF) opened its doors for  business in April 2005 and is run by an independent body. It pays compensation to members of defined benefit plans whose employer has gone bust and where there are not enough assets in the Plan to buy benefits at PPF levels of compensation or above.
